Introducing candlelight into a space is one way to guarantee that sought-after cosy feel.

The lighting of a candle is such a simple act, yet it can have a hugely positive effect on, not just a room, but also our mood. Our latest edit – An Autumnal Glow – has been created so you can easily transform your home into a cosy and inviting haven, perfect for the darker Autumn nights.

From miniature lanterns for adding a little twinkle, to statement floor lanterns, perfect for beside the fireplace - explore our huge range of hurricanes, lanterns and candle holders. With a huge variety of designs, sizes and finishes available - pick a piece that will really elevate your home décor.

We’ve put together some of our favourite reasons to introduce candlelight into the home (as if you really need one!)

Decorative Candle Holders

The warm, glow of candlelight throughout the evening is a sure-fire to way to evoke a feeling of relaxation. But, when the candle is blown out, sometimes the holder it’s in can look a little lack-lustre. So why not choose a real statement hurricane or candle holder that not only looks great when the candles are lit, but makes a beautiful decorative accessory throughout the day.

Introduce Some Colour

You can jazz up any candle holder or lantern by introducing coloured pillar or taper candles. Pick a neon colour to really draw attention, or go for something more subtle for a classical look. Red and green candles also make a great addition to a festive display..

We love this pop of pink that we used when styling our candelabra for one of our photoshoots.

Take Centre Stage

From the dinner table to the coffee table, create the perfect centrepiece with our candle holders. You can even go a step further and dress the surrounding area with foliage or seasonal blooms to add extra impact (please be careful with lit candles though or use a battery alternative!).

Trays are also a wonderful way to display smaller tea lights and mini lanterns – especially on a coffee table. Check out our selection of silver trays that are perfect for styling in your own unique way.

So Fresh and So Clean

Nothing beats a Mrs Hinch style clean and in true hinching fashion, the rooms’s not done until you light a candle at the end! We’ve got some gorgeous little tea light holders that are perfect for this. Why not pop in a scented tea light too to add a delicious scent to your freshly cleaned space.

WFH Crew

With so many of us still working from home, it’s important to try and create a space that is both calming and aids productivity. Popping a lit candle on your desk or work table, especially a scented one, can help create a calming atmosphere – ready for all the Zoom meetings you have planned! Check out some of our stylish tea light holders that not only look beautiful, but won’t take up too much of your precious work space either.

Taking A Moment

Candlelight is definitely a mood booster. With so much going on in the world today, lots of people enjoy taking some time out of their busy schedules to meditate or simply be still and reflectivefor a few minutes. Candles have wonderful meditative qualities and are great for either setting the ambience or as something to focus on during the quiet time.

Caring For Your Candles

However you chose to use candles – whether in a lantern, hurricane or candle holder - we’ve got some great tips for keeping your candles glowing at their very best.

  • When you light a pillar candle for the first time, make sure it is allowed to burn out to the edge before extinguishing it. If it only burns for a short while, it will be spoilt by burning downwards and not outwards.
  • Trim the wick down to a maximum of 1cm (1/3 – 1/2") before lighting.
  • If the candle gives off sooty smoke, extinguish it and trim the wick before lighting it again.
  • Each time the candle is extinguished, remove charred pieces of wick, remains of matches, and other impurities like traces of lacquer, from the melted wax round the wick.
  • Use a candle extinguisher or 'snuffer' instead of blowing candles out.
  • Always burn candles on a level surface.

We have a great selection of simple, ivory Church Candles on the website that have been hand-selected for their smokeless, low drip and long burn qualities. Available in a variety of sizes to complement our range of lanterns and hurricanes, or perfect for decorative use around the home.
