Styling With Metallics

Everywhere you look metallics are bang on trend and their uses really are infinite! Even when it comes to fashion, shades of gold and silver are no longer limited to accent pieces of jewellery. From head to toe; metallic materials are huge! Whether its a shiny pleated midi skirt or a bit of bling on your kitten heels, we’re embracing this glam look and interior design is no different.

Copper tones and rose gold were both very on-trend throughout 2016, especially with Nordic inspired interiors being so popular. Here at Culinary we saw this reflected in a huge interest and demand for our copper lighting, copper glasshouse lanterns and mini lantern ranges.

This year, whilst metals are still super trendy, they have switched to a decidedly more low-key look with understated matte and brushed finishes.

If you’re looking to introduce some metallics into your home this year, brass and gold are going to be a big hit. If you’re starting out, don’t be afraid to mix and match metal tones, but if you’re not sure, start small and experiment with decorative accents such as light fittings and mirrors. Choose things that can be moved around or easily removed if you decide that metallics just aren’t for you.

Metals are a sure fire way to make a statement in your home but don’t forget, sometimes less is more. Your surroundings still needs to be comfortable and welcoming so avoid a harsh finish by softening the look with textural accents and tactile fabrics such as plump velvet cushions. Luxury soft furnishings will all add to the glam appeal too!

If you’re introducing metallic tones to a room, try to also choose metals that complement your existing colour scheme - from the wall colour to soft furnishings. Silver and chrome work best paired with cooler shades and coppers and golds will enhance warmer tones perfectly.
